  • Bonsai: the tree at its smallest scale
  • Trees from around the world at the Karaca Arboretum

The story of this route

Atatürk's fondness for Yalova is well known, and so is the story of the Walking Mansion, which he had moved on rails so that a plane tree's branches would not be cut. Our first stop is the Atatürk Arboretum in Termal: before going in, we talk outdoors about the town's relationship with trees, then walk through the arboretum.

Next, at the Yalova Bonsai Museum, we look at how a tree is shaped at the smallest scale, and we end the day at the Karaca Arboretum, a collection built through the work of Hayrettin Karaca.

The route

  1. Atatürk Arboretum, TermalAn outdoor introduction before we go in, then a walk through the arboretum.
  2. Yalova Bonsai MuseumA visit of about 50 minutes: the tree at its smallest scale.
  3. Karaca ArboretumA private collection of trees and shrubs gathered from around the world.
